Getting Started with the MK5000

This article will walk you through the first steps to get started with your new MK5000 timeclock.  You can use the links below to skip to a specific section of this article.  After you complete the initial setup process, you can proceed with the other articles in this help center to learn more about operating your MK5000 timeclock features (users, shifts, reports, system, access, data management, communication, and system information). Workwell does not sell accessories (and cannot provide technical assistance with features) related to Door Access or Alarm Bells.

Before You Start

Usage environment

Lighting conditions have a funtional impact on face recognition technology, which may lead to the failure of face recognition verification.  Placing the device in an evenly and consistently lit environment will yield more consistent and successful results during registration and usage.

The operating temperature of the device is 0℃–45℃ (32–114F). Avoid long-term outdoor use. Long-term outdoor use will affect the normal operation of the device. If it must be used outdoors, it is recommended to take measures to maintain the proper operating temperature where the device is installed.

 

Installation Precautions

  1. Before installation, please make sure that the power system of device is turned off. 
  2. Connect the ground wire first and then connect other wires, which can protect the device from damage in static electricity.
  3. Do not expose the terminals of lines that connect unused ports. It may cause short-circuit damage to equipment. Use different colored lines to connect ports to distinguish the different ports.
  4. Connect all other lines before connecting the power cord and perform a power test. If the device  does not properly function after the power test, disconnect the power again before checking the lines.
  5. Only a power cord can be used to connect the device (no network cables or other types of wires).
  6. If the time clock stops working or ceases functioning normally, due to any faulty or abnormal wiring you have installed, this will not be not covered under your device warranty.

 

Biometric Policy

The MK5000 device (the “Device”) may be used to collect Biometric Information from individuals, including your employees, workforce or other individuals. “Biometric Information” is any information, regardless of how it is captured, converted, stored or shared, based on an individual’s biometric identifier used to identify an individual, including a fingerprint. By installing and operating the Device, you certify that you are solely responsible for adhering to any and all laws or regulations relating to the collection of Biometric Information from any individual, including obtaining permission from any individual for collection of such information. You agree to indemnify, defend and hold harmless WorkWell Technologies and its affiliates, directors, officers, partners, counsel and of-counsel, associates, employees, agents, successors and assigns (collectively, “WorkWell”) from and against all liabilities, losses, damages and costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) (collectively, “Losses”) that it may suffer as the result of third party actions, judgments, claims, suits, or demands against it resulting from or arising out of: (a) your negligence, recklessness or willful misconduct on your part relating to the Device; and (b) your failure to comply with applicable laws, including laws relating to collection of Biometric Information. You agree to promptly notify WorkWell in writing of any indemnifiable claim and give WorkWell the opportunity to defend or negotiate a settlement of any such claim.

 

Warranty

Should you have any questions concerning your warranty information or supplies, please contact the dealer or store where you purchased the equipment. This product is guaranteed to the original purchaser for a period of two (2) years from original purchase date against defective materials and workmanship when used under normal operating conditions. The repair or replacement of any defective component or part and any necessary adjustments will be made free of charge provided that the machine is shipped prepaid to the factory service center shown below, securely packaged and shipped in the original shipping container. This warranty applies to uPunch products purchased and retained in the U.S.A. The guarantee is not applicable if the device has been subject to misuse, abuse, negligence, accidents, power surges and lightning. The guarantee is not applicable if the serial number has been altered, defaced, or removed or if the device has been tampered with or taken apart by anyone other than authorized service personnel.

Getting Started

Recommended steps

  • Step 1: Open the box to check the device, power it on, and set the date and time.
  • Step 2: Mount the device on a wall. (optional)
  • Step 3: Add your users and register their faces, cards, and passwords.
  • Step 4: Set up shift schedules for your users.
  • Step 5: Download the attendance record at the end of the month.

 

Wall mounting instructions

The recommended installation height is 130cm (approximately 51") from the lowest point of the device to the ground unless a more suitable height proves to be functional for your situation.

  1. Use the holes on the rear hanging plate as a template to mark the appropriate attachment points on your wall.
  2. Drill holes and install the most appropriate hardware for your mounting surface.  The device includes 1/8" diameter, 1" screws and hardware for standard drywall mounting.
  3. Screw the rear hanging plate on the wall using the most appropriate hardware for your mounting surface.  The device includes hardware for standard drywall mounting.
  4. Route the power appropriately, install the device on the rear hanging plate, and secure it on the bottom with the small supplied screw.

 

Menu Options

To access the menu options:

  1. Touch the screen to prompt a menu bar to pop up on the right side.
  2. Click the settings gear to access the menu.
  3. Registered admins must pass a verification using their face, card, or password to enter the menu.

  • User: Enroll user, view user list, department setting, download enrollment data and upload enrollment data
  • Shift: Records warning setting, grace minimum setting, logs information
  • Report: Download attendance reports in Excel format
  • System: General settings like time and language
  • Access: Set Wiegand output format, lock delay, time zone setting, and open group setting
  • Data Mgt: Download records in txt format, delete data, and initialize the device
  • Comm set: Set device No. , server setting, Ethernet setting
  • Sys info: Query registration information and detailed information about the device

Character Input Method

Touch 'Alt' to switch between upper-case letters, lower-case letters, and numbers.

Touch ‘Ok’ to save. 

Entering punctuation: When the input method is in the upper/lower-case letter state, touch the Space Bar key to select between a space, period, and the available punctuation characters.
