Edit Shifts in Excel for the MK3000
Editing shifts in Excel allows you to quickly review and update multiple shifts at once using a familiar spreadsheet format. This method is recommended when making several changes or when you want a clearer view of all shift rules.
Note: If you are only editing shifts, download and edit the shift file. If you will be both editing and assigning or reassigning shifts, you will also need to edit users.
Step 1: Download Shifts from the Time Clock
- Plug the USB flash drive into the side of the MK3000 time clock.
- Press [Menu].
- Scroll down to Shift, and press [OK].
- Press [OK] to select Download Shift.
- Wait for the download to complete.
- Press [ESC] repeatedly to exit the menus or allow them to time out.
- Remove the flash drive from the time clock.
Important: Do not rename or modify any file names. The time clock will not recognize renamed files during upload.
Step 2: Edit the Shift Setup Sheet in Excel
- Insert the USB flash drive into your computer.
- Open the Shift Setup Sheet using Excel (01SHIFT.XLS)
- Each row on the Shift sheet represents one shift.
- Edit the appropriate field:
- Name: Shift name (Up to 48 characters)
-
Sec1 / Sec2 / Sec3:
- OnDuty – Section start time
- OffDuty – Section end time
-
Sec Type – Hour type:
-
0= Normal attendance (regular hours) -
1= Overtime
-
- Cutoff Time: If an employee punches before the cutoff time, the punch is calculated as the previous day.
What Changes Will Occur
- OnDuty / OffDuty updates when work hours begin and end
- Sec Type controls whether time is regular or overtime
- Cutoff Time affects which day punches belong to
Example
If employees work 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM and earn overtime after 5:00 PM with a 1 hour lunch at 12:00, the shift would be set as:
-
Sec1: 8:30–12:00 | Sec Type
0 -
Sec2: 13:00–17:00 | Sec Type
0 -
Sec3: 18:00–21:00 | Sec Type
1 -
Cutoff Time: 0:00
(Punches before midnight apply to the previous day)
