Set Grace Periods on the MK3000
Grace periods allow employees to arrive late or leave early by a set number of minutes without their punches being flagged on the time card. On the MK3000, grace periods are managed through late arrival and early leave attendance rules and are applied at the shift level.
These rules are used with shifts so when an employee punches in later than their shift start time and the earlier than the end time thresholds, the punch will be red on the time card. This allows managers to quickly isolate punches that are outside of the company’s attendance policies or procedures.
To set the late arrival and early leave grace periods:
- Press Menu.
- Select Shift, then press OK.
- Select Atten rules, then press OK.
- Select Late time, then press OK.
- Use the arrow keys or keypad to set the grace period in minutes.
- Press OK.
- Select Lea time, then press OK.
- Use the arrow keys or keypad to set the early leave grace period in minutes.
- Press OK.
- Press ESC.
- When prompted with Save?, press OK.
When the employee’s arrival and leave time exceed the grace period, their punches will be treated as late and early.
Example
- Shift start: 8:00 a.m.
- Late arrival grace period: 5 minutes
Punch Time | Result |
| 8:03 a.m. | On time (black) |
| 8:07 a.m. | Late (red) |
Important Notes
- Grace periods do not change punch times - only how they are flagged.
- Grace periods work only when employees are assigned to a shift.
- Changes do not retroactively update previously recorded punches.
- If you do not want irregular punches highlighted, or you have more than 5 shifts, you can simply assign an employee to shift zero. Shift zero will print all the employee’s punches in black.
